According to oral tradition, when a plague epidemic struck the island in 1583, the Island Council, which was then based in La Laguna, assembled in this building.

Its first stone was laid in 1700, financed mainly by the timber trade and contributions from the local residents. Built in the Romanesque-Mudejar style, construction lasted for years, with constant renovations and extensions.

Construction began in 1843 thanks to contributions from the local inhabitants. Although Tegueste became a municipality in 1813, it did not have a seat for the municipal offices. This building also served as a grain exchange, a mortuary and a school.

Place where Tegueste was founded as the terrain was suitable for settlement, especially in terms of access and the availability of water.

This bridge is a key piece of engineering for connecting the town with the outside world. It was destroyed on several occasions in the past during torrential rains.

House dating from the early 20th century, which in 2014 was converted into the Casa de los Zamorano Interpretation Centre, where a project is under way to manage the cultural heritage of Tegueste. Various tasks are performed in this centre, including cultural mediation with the community and handling visits to Casa Los Zamorano, management of the exhibition and conservation of the collection.

This building was the home of the priest (prebendary) known as “Prebendado Pacheco” and also housed the first public school in Tegueste in 1849.

Tegueste takes its name from the old menceyato (Guanche kingdom), which after the conquest fell under the jurisdiction of the municipality of La Laguna (until it was named an independent municipality by the Cortes de Cádiz). Its geographical situation is unusual among the municipalities of Tenerife, as it is completely surrounded by the municipality of La Laguna. The division of land by the Adelantado (governor) led to the transformation of a virtually untouched natural environment. In the historical records, Fernando de Llerena, Guillén Castellano, Juan de Almansa, Francisco Melián, Gonzalo del Castillo and Juan Zapata, among others, were granted the use of land, water and pasture. The town centre has a subquadrangular layout arranged around the parish church of San Marcos and bounded by the Aguas de Dios ravine, the Camino del Caidero bridge and Casa de la Palmera.
