Update on Preventive Measures against Forest Fires in Tenerife (14 August 2025)
Check the areas and the permitted activities.
The Island Council’s Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies has issued a new resolution to adjust the extraordinary preventive measures against forest fires, following the declaration of maximum alert by the Government of the Canary Islands and the evolution of weather conditions.
📆 Validity and changes by area
- Until 07:00 on Saturday 16 August, Level 3 measures will remain in force across the entire island, as established in the previous resolution of 8 August.
- From that time onwards, Level 3 measures will apply to the municipalities on the southern side of the island, while the northern side will be downgraded to Level 2.
Municipalities under LEVEL 2: Buenavista del Norte, Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, La Guancha, San Juan de la Rambla, Los Realejos, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria de Acentejo, La Matanza de Acentejo, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tegueste, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario.
Municipalities under LEVEL 3: Candelaria, Arafo, Güímar, Fasnia, Arico, Granadilla de Abona, San Miguel de Abona, Arona, Vilaflor, Adeje, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide.
(The PR TF 51 trail San José de Los Llanos – Punta de Teno is exempt and can be accessed in its entirety.)
In Teide National Park, the following trails will remain closed:
- PNT 05 Degollada de Guajara
- PNT 13 Circular Sámara
- PNT 15 Alto de Guajara
- PNT 18 Chavao
- PNT 20 Circular Montaña de Fasnia
- PNT 32 Abeque
- PNT 35 Boca Chavao
- PNT 37 Cerrilar – Carnicería
- PNT 38 Cuevas Negras
- PNT 41 Barranco de Erques
🔴 Main restrictions in LEVEL 2
- Prohibited: bonfires, barbecues, gas stoves, fireworks displays, use of machinery that generates sparks, forestry work, recreational motor vehicle use on forest tracks, use of recreational areas and campsites, and sporting events or pilgrimages in forest areas.
- Permitted: hunting activities without firearms, walking along trails and tracks, access to private properties, and ordinary activities outside risk zones.
📌 Recommendations
The Department urges:
- Avoid entering or remaining in forested areas.
- Take extreme precautions with any activity that may cause fire.
- Event organisers of non-prohibited activities should adopt preventive measures.
🏕 Exceptions
Some facilities are exempt from the restrictions, such as the San José de Los Llanos Recreational Area, the La Esperanza Youth Camp, Forestal Park in Las Lagunetas, Campamento Quimpi, among others, provided that safe evacuation can be ensured in the event of a fire.
