Geology

Within the protected area is the Pinoleris Special Nature Reserve, which has great environmental value.

The southern part is populated with Canary Island pine and monteverde forests, along with rock plant species on the steeper inclines.

In the northern part, the landscape is rural and agricultural, typical of the mid-elevation slopes of this part of Tenerife, bringing great cultural and scenic value to the area with its vineyards and potato crops.

This protected landscape borders the Corona Forestal and the Las Lagunetas Protected Landscape and forms a large area that is essential for the conservation of certain species of flora and fauna.

Flora and fauna

The protected landscape is home to highly representative plant life, including the last specimens of picopaloma or lotus vine (Lotus berthelotii) and some rare species such as tajinastegigante (Echiumgiganteum) and poleopeludo (Bystropogonplumosus).

The two pigeons native to the laurel forest, Bolle’s pigeon and laurel pigeon, stand out among the wildlife found here. La Resbala is one of the midway points between the main populations of Anaga and Teno and is therefore essential for their conservation.

There are also healthy populations of blue chaffinch and great spotted woodpecker, as well as sparrowhawks and long-eared owls.

Invertebrates are little studied, but endemic species have been found, such as a bark crab spider (Olios canariensis), a moth named lagartacanariadelpino (Callitearafortunata), a cicada named cigarratinerfeña (Calliphonakoenigi) and a green-striped white butterfly native to the island (Euchloebelemiaeversi).

Bats are the only native mammals. The lesser noctule, the Madeira pipistrelle, the Canary long-eared bat and the European free-tailed bat have been confirmed in the area.
