Description
Las Raíces Campsite is situated at an altitude of 1,000 metres on the southern slopes of the La Esperanza ridge, a location where mist and low temperatures are common.
The area is covered in woodland featuring species typical of the humid climate, such as faya (Morella faya), acebiño (Ilex canariensis) and tree heath (Erica arborea), mixed with Canary Island pines and bushes with colourful flowers, such as jara (rockrose, Cistus symphytifolius), poleo (Bystropogonoriganifolius) and corazoncillo (Lotus campylocladus). As for fauna, the most common species are finches and woodpeckers which can be heard boring holes in the oldest tree trunks.
Due to its proximity to towns and villages, its easy access by car via asphalt roads and its many waymarked paths, it is a very popular area, especially on public holidays and weekends.
The camping area adjoins a recreational area offering a range of services.
Tips
- Enjoy the local plant and animal life without disturbing it. Be curious but from a safe and respectful distance.
- Follow the rules and instructions on the signs to avoid disturbance to people and animals.
- Keep the environment clean and leave no litter behind. Rubbish and cigarette butts must be disposed of in the designated containers.
- Travel in small groups to keep noise pollution and the impact on the environment to a minimum.
- Use the water in the toilets and taps responsibly. Water is a scarce and precious commodity on our island.
